North Carolina Health Care
Like many states, North Carolina residents are hoping to have better, more affordable health care in the near future. Not only will the 2008 presidential race determine the outcome but also the race for North Carolina governor. As health care is on the forefront of many individual’s minds, certain trends and issues are standing out in this area of interest.
Shortage of Health Care Providers
Increasing the number of health care providers in the state is one concern of residents and legislative representatives. Obtaining more doctors and nurses to work in the state and care for North Carolina residents is crucial as all areas need sufficient amounts of medical health professionals caring for the people who live within this state. Being able to pay for the health care services means nothing if there is not a sufficient supply of doctors, nurses and other medical health professionals to meet the health demands of the masses.
Uninsured Rates of North Carolina
Another health care issue being tossed around by the residents of North Carolina relates to the uninsured rate in the state as it pertains to health insurance. For those who do have doctors and nurses in their area to care for their health needs, they still may face the problem of paying for such services. There are approximately 1.5 million North Carolina residents currently without health insurance coverage and finding a solution to the uninsured problem is a current issue which is seriously being debated throughout the state.
One of the candidates for governor, Bob Orr, has offered possible solutions to the uninsured problem such as reducing coverage mandates, making the healthcare market transparent, opening the insurance market and promoting various alternatives to traditional insurance methods including HSAs and HRAs.
