Minors, pregnant women, and other persons who meet strict income guidelines may qualify for Idaho’s Medicaid Basic Plan. People with certain chronic health conditions may qualify for the Medicaid Enhanced Plan.
Uninsured minors who do not meet the stringent income guidelines for Medicaid may qualify for Idaho’s SCHIP plan, which basically expands the Medicaid income guidelines for families with uninsured children.

Idaho scores well in Medicare recipients’ satisfaction with healthcare providers. Medicare recipients also stated they were able to get in to see their health care providers promptly. Compared to other states, Idaho has a low rate of infants born with very low birth weight.
An area in Idaho’s healthcare system that has potential for improvement and growth, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is preventative care. Compared to other states, fewer women received recommended mammograms or Pap tests, and fewer diabetics received eye exams.
Idaho's Health System Modernization
In January of 2008, the state of Idaho contracted with Thomson Healthcare to oversee the modernization of the state’s Medicaid system. The new computer technology should boost the system’s efficiency and curtail the opportunities for fraud.
