2008 Health Care Policy in Massachusetts

Legislators in Massachusetts are continually trying to meet the health-related needs of its citizens. And health care in Massachusetts is only one state among dozens in which health care is an issue that residents face on a daily basis.

Current Trends and Issues Pertaining to Health Care

One of the main health care issues which has arisen in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is the new legislation enacted which requires citizens to maintain a health insurance policy. Due to the sheer need for health insurance in order to allow individuals to receive the best health care possible, the state is issuing fines for those who are found to be without such insurance.

In 2007, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue charged approximately $219 in fees for those who were found to be without health insurance. Showing that the Commonwealth means business, the fees in 2008 are possibly being increased to around $912 should one not have an active health insurance policy.

There are many reasons for requiring the citizens to obtain health insurance. Factors include: A large quantity of individuals without health insurance in Massachusetts, individuals who realize they’re covering the costs of health care for those who lack insurance, and the availability of low-cost health insurance policies. The benefits which will be felt by this new legislation are sure to exceed any negative impacts.
