2008 Health Care Policy in Michigan
Individuals who contemplate the state of health care may consider where they are able to obtain health-related care, what services are available to them and how they will pay for such medical services. Health insurance is one of the best ways to ensure that you are covered should you need medical care. The overall health care quality that Michigan residents experience is average when compared with the other states.
Michigan Health Ranking
Every year results are registered showing which states are among the healthiest in the U.S. Michigan residents will find that their state is ranked 31st on the “Healthiest States” list put out by Morgan Quitno. The factors that led to the low rating for Michigan are linked with the lack of overall healthy living include the rising incidence of obesity, large number of uninsured individuals, and increased amount of children living in poverty.
Another issue which plagues Michigan residents is the lack of a high risk pool for medically uninsurable individuals. In other states individuals may have the benefit of taking part in these risk pools when they are unable to gain health insurance via any other route due to medical reasons but still have enough money to pay an insurance premium.
Although the premiums for high-risk pools are much higher than normal health insurance policies, these policies are still acquired by those who have no other alternative if they want health insurance. State officials in Michigan could put one of these programs in place, individuals would have a better chance of acquiring a health insurance policy to aid in making the state a healthier one overall.
