Health Care in Missouri for 2008

Health care issues persist in many states and Missouri is one of them. Issues pertaining to adequate health care availability, beneficial health insurance polices and the enactment of new legislation to protect the quality of health care which residents receive are all important notions for individuals to consider. Missouri receives an average rating with regard to overall health care quality when compared with other states. With that said, there are still ways to transform that average rating into an even better one.

Missouri Health Insurance Trends

Missouri associations and legislators are finding various ways to improve the health care in Missouri. For example, funds are being offered to different organizations throughout Missouri by the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) who will use the funds to develop new ways to aid in improving health care in the state. The underlying purpose of this innovative funding approach is to offer funds to those who create new health care programs in areas such as primary care, mental health, tobacco cessation and more. As the need for improved health care is ever present having incentives such as this one may help to fix health care problems which permeate the area.

SCHIP in Missouri

There is also a push in Missouri to have the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) reauthorized and expanded in coverage. Due to the approximately 127,000 uninsured children of low income families currently living in the state, Missouri residents are hoping to have this legislation given an extra boost to provide children with the necessary health coverage that they need should medical intervention be necessary. This program helps to provide coverage for the children of these low income families and give their family peace of mind in knowing that help is there should they need to visit the doctor, hospital or any other medical facility for health-related treatment.
