Montana Health Insurance in 2008

Montana with its great outdoors and fresh air is considered to be a healthy state when compared with the others in the United States. With that said, health care is still an important issue for all who live in Montana and wish to have access to proper health care resources as well as be adequately covered by health insurance. There are a few issues and trends currently taking place throughout the state which draw great concern and attention from its residents.

Health Care in Montana Today

As with many states, providing insurance for uninsured children of low income families is an important concern within Montana. Approximately 34,000 children in this state are without health insurance. The good news is that the Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) as well as Medicaid provides uninsured children with the necessary coverage.

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services announced that as of February 1, 2008 new income guidelines are in effect for those who wish to acquire CHIP protection. For a family of four the income cutoff is $37,100 and those making less than that amount are eligible for CHIP. However, certain exceptions might apply which may provide eligibility for adults who bring home more than the aforementioned amount.

Treatment for Chemical Dependency in Montana

Those who need treatment for chemical dependency in Montana and are of a low income status may find that they have access to one of the seven new facilities being constructed within the state. Since chemical dependency is a growing concern as a whole and treatment facilities for this type of medical condition are often pricey in nature, having the access to such care regardless of one’s monetary situation is something to look into. The facilities will differ with regard to intensity of treatment as well as the programs offered for those suffering from chemical dependency.
