North Dakota Health Plans

Due to the overall rural nature of North Dakota, having adequate access to health care facilities is often on the minds of many residents. As one of the largest rural states in the U.S., North Dakota residents may live a good distance from the nearest hospital or other health facility which presents a problem. This is just one of the health care issues which are discussed by North Dakota residents on a frequent basis.

Legislation for Health Care

As mentioned above, access to one’s doctor’s office or specialist can often be a troublesome task for many. Due to the large geographic area of the state, not everyone has a medical facility within a few miles of their home. This presents a problem especially for those who need emergency care in a quick manner.

Legislative representatives, such as Senator Kent Conrad, is extremely concerned with this fact and trying to address the problem in order to find solutions to the lack of medical care throughout the state.

Another issue being discussed by individuals such as Senator Conrad and North Dakota residents is finding a way to keep current medical facilities open throughout the state, especially in the rural portions of the state. Many of the proposed solutions for doing so entail addressing Medicare reimbursement issues and offering competitive salaries to medical health professionals who staff such hospitals and medical facilities.

Paying for health care is also among the list of top worries for North Dakota residents. Various steps have been taken by the state legislature to address these concerns such as the Medicare Modernization Act which helps senior citizens pay for necessary medications and supporting the SCHIP program which provides for uninsured children.
