Health Insurance Policy in Nebraska

Nebraska like any other state faces various health care related issues these days. Factors such as being short staffed and underpaid are important concerns to health care workers throughout Nebraska, especially in the rural areas of the state. In 2008, certain trends and issues are appearing more often than others with regard to Nebraska health care.

Rural health care issues are a concern to Nebraska residents. The less populated areas of the state, such as those outside the larger Nebraskan cities, are facing health care issues which were not given as much attention in the past as they are today. Now that rural area health care issues have come to light, certain legislation is being put into effect which will aim at correcting these problems.

For example, Nebraska’s Telehealth Network has just received information that they will be able to keep their current federal funding amounts as this was supposed to be taken away. The funding is necessary for rural areas which need the monetary backing to operate the special care facilities in less populated areas of the state.

Another issue in Nebraska which is pertinent to health care concerns is the statewide smoking ban legislation which was passed in February of 2008. Lincoln, Nebraska has had this smoking ban in effect for the prior three years but it is just recently in which the legislators have decided to expand the ban throughout the entire state. This is a beneficial move for Nebraska residents as it may ultimately help to decrease the amount of smokers within the state as well as those who are exposed to secondhand smoke. The ban may lead to fewer health care visits and a healthier state overall.
