Oklahoma Health Coverage
The number of uninsured individuals and increasing costs of health care are issues which many state’s residents are talking about, especially those in Oklahoma. Oklahoma residents discuss these issues amongst others pertaining to health care and try to come up with ways to live healthier lives and obtain affordable health care for all.
Health Care in Oklahoma
Protecting children who lack health insurance is one of the major concerns these days in Oklahoma. The federal program known as SCHIP is one which addresses the needs of uninsured children in the various states throughout the U.S. This program has been discussed in the lengths the past few months regarding whether the bill should be extended another year or so and what was once an uphill battle for proponents has been successful for the time being. Finally it was determined that funding for SCHIP would be extended through 2009 which will continue to provide health care funds for uninsured children.
Emphasizing the prevention of illnesses are also on the forefront of health care related conversations. Oklahoma residents realize that there is perhaps no better way to reduce health care costs than by preventing illnesses from occurring in the first place.
Certain steps should be taken to do so such as raising public awareness as to how they can prevent getting sick, promoting screenings for certain illnesses such as cancer and attending wellness seminars to receive such information. This in turn will help to reduce health care costs and insurance deductibles. The legislature needs to play a big part in helping to set up such programs and offer funding to medical health facilities which do so.
